Dr John Rutherford has been one of the Territory’s leading forensic pathologists, and called to the fore whenever there has been a death requiring an autopsy.

It’s work that has seen him deal with everything from suicides to crime scenes, but what is most important to him is dealing with the deceased and their families with great respect.

Along the way, he’s done just about everything – from being a consultant and extra on Prime Suspect with Helen Mirren to exhuming bodies to provide evidence to convict British serial killer Dr Harold Shipman.

Dr Rutherford retired in April this year and he spoke to the ABC’s Miranda Tetlow on Late Lunch in 2020.
